Sue Cornelison graduated with a BFA from Drake University in Art Education with an emphasis in drawing and painting. She then traveled to Florence, Italy to continue her studies at the International School of Studio Arts.
Sue has worked as a full time illustrator for a decade, exploring many techniques and styles. Versatile best describes her.
She has taught HS art, carved clay bas relief tiles for the city of Ames, designed craft projects for Better Homes and Gardens, illustrated Christmas Cards for Charity, painted portraits, as well as painted large paintings for churches and Iowa State Univ., but what she enjoys most of all is writing and illustrating for children.
She lives in rural Iowa where she and her jazz musician husband raised a family of six while remodeling a 1909 three-story Victorian on Main Street. The old carriage house will soon be transformed into her art studio. Iowa’s wide-open spaces and friendly small town folks make it an idyllic spot to work and raise a family. In her spare time, she coaches a team of energetic young tumblers and trampolinists.
