I started drawing as a small child by the side of my artist grandmother. We carried our pencils and sketch pads together to Coney Island Beach where we drew the sleeping sunbathers.
After studying architecture at Cornell University and art in London, I returned to the States to finish up my BFA at California College of Arts and Crafts in the Bay Area. My first jobs were in design firms and then textbook illustration. In 1987 I moved to Hamburg, Germany where I was able to continue my career in picture books. In 1997 I returned to the U.S. and now live/work in the lovely Willamette Valley in Oregon.
