Bio

Thea Kliros studied Art at Bennington College in Vermont and at the Yale University School of Art and Design in New Haven, Connecticut. She began her career as a painter living in Washington DC. During this time she exhibited her work and had a job painting dioramas for the Natural History Museum in Washington DC. She then moved to Europe and lived in Spain and Switzerland for several years. She continued to paint and exhibit her work while gaining experience working as a freelance illustrator. Thea currently lives in New York City where she exhibits her work and illustrates children’s books.

Over the past decade Thea has won numerous awards for her work. Her series published by Greenwillow Harper Collins What can you do in the rain? , won an award for Best of the Year from the Please Touch Children’s Museum in Philadelphia. The book was subsequently published in Korean. Thea has illustrated many of the classics from Anne of Green gables to Robin Hood, Little Women, Pocahontas and the Velveteen Rabbit. She is Currently represented by Storyopolis in studio City California and Chris Beetles Ltd, in London. Some of her books are in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg and many have been translated into different languages.
