Amy Schimleramy@amyschimler.comBioI have been an illustrator and designer for the past ten years selling and licensing my work to a variety of publishers and manufacturers. My client list includes Scholastic Press, Random House, Highlights, Unicef, Hallmark, Papyrus, Oopsy Daisy, Fisher Price, Pottery Barn Kids, and many more. I love playing with texture, pattern, and color and aim for a naive and playful attitude in my work. When not painting or sitting at my computer you can find me behind a camera lens, on a long nature walk, or daydreaming by the ocean.

Ellen Beierellenbeier@yahoo.comBioI started drawing as a small child by the side of my artist grandmother. We carried our pencils and sketch pads together to Coney Island Beach where we drew the sleeping sunbathers. After studying architecture at Cornell University and art in London, I returned to the States to finish up my BFA at California College of Arts and Crafts in the Bay Area. My first jobs were in design firms and then textbook illustration. In 1987 I moved to Hamburg, Germany where I was able to continue my career in picture books. In 1997 I returned to the U.S. and now live/work in the lovely Willamette Valley in Oregon.
Gaia Cornwallg.cornwall@gmail.comBioGaia Cornwall is an illustrator, (and sometimes animator,) who now splits her time between Brooklyn, NY and Providence, RI. After graduating from Pratt Institute, she worked on a variety of projects, –including producing a film festival, animating cartoons for network television and film, and working on a documentary– that gradually led her back to one of her first loves, illustration. Her work has been featured online, in interactive games, on assorted products, in films, as murals, and in various forms of print. Her hand drawn images tend to be realistically rendered, but with a whimsical touch, often employing patterns and botanical elements. Her favorite projects feature mischievous children. Gaia works at home with her two feline supervisors.

Jane Smithjane@superjane.comBioJane Smith loves paper. She has boxes and boxes of it, all organized by color. She enjoys creating collages that celebrate a child’s discovery of the world around them. Her work strives to capture those little moments when for the very first time a snail is revealed beneath a leaf or a garbage truck is seen out the window. And when the challenge of marrying a novelty element with images with text comes up, Jane is particularly excited. There is nothing more satisfying than a perfectly timed lift-the-flap or a surprising pop-up!
Jed Alexanderjedalexander@sbcglobal.netBioIf you're looking for a classic and timeless look, my work harks back to the golden age of 20th century children's book illustration, but with a contemporary feel and rich palette. After working in the editorial field for 10 years for such publications as LA Weekly, The Sacramento News and Review and The Santa Cruz Metro, I was inspired to return to my first love, children's illustration. To further this aim, I created a portfolio inspired by classic children's tales, for which I received best in show at the North/Central Society of Children's Book Writer's and Illustrator's Spring Spirit conference in 2010. I also received an Ignatz nomination for my graphic novel work for Alternative Comics. I studied illustration at San Jose State University where I received my degree. I am a current member of SCBWI.

Juana Martinez-Nealme@juanamartinezneal.comBioHi there! I'm Juana and I'm a children's illustrator. I love art and birdies. I was born in Lima, the capital of Peru. I've been illustrating for children since I was 16. Back then, my work was sold in toy packaging all across the country. I was having so much fun. Education is a must and I attended the best art school ever, Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru - School of Fine Arts. After 3 years of a crazy 8-to-8 schedule and way too many all-nighters, I was in desperate need of a semester-break and decided to give L.A. a "test drive." I have lived in the US ever since. I now live and work in Scottsdale, Arizona. I found a boy that I love and together we have two active, young boys who are always getting into trouble and chasing Mr. Snaggle-Tooth Kitty and Puppy. I'm currently available for new and exciting projects so email me and let's talk. Extra points to you if you do it in Spanish.

Layne Johnsonlayne@laynejohnson.comBioI'm Layne Johnson and I've always loved adventure! And that's exactly what each new book is. A native Texan, I've drawn and painted just about everything! Being a children's book illustrator is also an adventure. I often ask kids if they know what an illustrator does. A kindergartener might say, "You write the pictures in books!" A third grader might say, "You draw the pictures in books!" But I say, "I bring books to life!" I don't draw or paint just what the words say. I draw what comes before the words, what's between the words, what comes after the words. It's my job to make the world of a book larger. I want the reader to "be there" in the book. And when they've taken the journey with me, to say, "Let's read it again!" Why do I do what I do? Because it's FUN! I'm still a kid at heart, so illustrating books for kids is my passion. And empowering children to draw and write is something I cherish — what could be better?! I earned my BFA from the University of Houston and have been a freelance illustrator for more than 25 years.
Leanne Fransoninkspots@videotron.caBioLeanne Franson lives in Montreal, Québec, where she illustrates children's books and textbooks in her home studio, surrounded by the hair from her two cats, her Saint-Bernard and her little boy Benjamin Taotao's toys and questions. Marit Menzinmmenzin@verizon.netBioMy kindergarten teacher, Lia, discovered my talent for drawing. I attended many art workshops and I had an oil painter for a mentor while very young. I loved to read books and I also loved to write plays and poems for school. In college I majored in Biology and Chemistry. After a few fires and one suspected carbon monoxide leak at my graduate school laboratory, I decided that I had enough of chemical threats and hazards. I then studied computers and worked as a chemistry high school teacher, and as a computer programmer. As I pursued my scientific career, I continued to illustrate while studying different methods of painting. I participated in workshops, entitled How to Illustrate Children’s Books, at DeCordova museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts. My mentor there was the acclaimed illustrator Ilse Plum. In the past 7 years, I have devoted my time to writing and illustrating. I developed my own unique style as a collage artist. My goal as a writer/illustrator is to teach young children through an intriguing story and captivating illustrations.

René Milotrenemilot@renemilot.comBio René brings his boundless energy and years of communications to solving visual problems with elegant, realistic oil painting. Of course he also works digitally when required, but oils are his main love and the medium that has garnered him an impressive list of international honors. As both an instructor and illustrator, René addresses work with humor and pragmatism. His college illustration courses and lectures are touted as “Everything you’ve always wanted to know about illustration and your other teachers were afraid to tell you.” Clients appreciate his creativity coupled with straight forward professionalism. For René, work and play must be closely related: “mens sana in corpore sanum” (a healthy mind in a healthy body). When he has the chance, he relishes the excitement of windsurfing, mountain biking and snowboarding. After long hours of painting, he enjoys ending the day with friends around great food and of course wine.
