| Cheryl Welch | welchdesign@aol.com | Bio | My illustrative focus has been two-fold—designing for surface/textiles and for children’s picture books. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some great clients, and have illustrated product-driven textiles for Hasbro, packaging for Fisher-Price, and a Kindergarten Reader for Scott-Foresman. Whatever the project, my goal is to create art that inspires thought, evokes a smile, and serves a purpose. Whether creating a funny character or an everyday object, I use unusual colors, lines that sometimes don’t connect and seemingly impossible patterns jig-sawed together to become a strange and perfect new world filled with humor and surprise. |

| Diego Moscato | moscatodiego@gmail.com | Bio | My way of working is a combination of traditional and digital techniques.
In traditional techniques, drawing and the ink is where I am more professional. Watercolors, watercolors, pencils and acrylics are the most commonly used soil but choose the more appropriate tool because each has its own character as to illustrate the text. Along with the use of digital tablet, Photoshop and versatility in reproduction of textures and strokes complete the process to meet deadlines without affecting image quality. These are digital media by email or yousendlt.
My greatest affinity and experience is to the texts to a young audience, but I'm open to other audiences, texts or proposals.
I bet for versatility. |

| Jane Smith | jane@superjane.com | Bio | Jane Smith loves paper. She has boxes and boxes of it, all organized by color. She enjoys creating collages that celebrate a child’s discovery of the world around them. Her work strives to capture those little moments when for the very first time a snail is revealed beneath a leaf or a garbage truck is seen out the window. And when the challenge of marrying a novelty element with images with text comes up, Jane is particularly excited. There is nothing more satisfying than a perfectly timed lift-the-flap or a surprising pop-up! |
| Jed Alexander | jedalexander@sbcglobal.net | Bio | If you're looking for a classic and timeless look, my work harks back to the golden age of 20th century children's book illustration, but with a contemporary feel and rich palette.

To further this aim, I created a portfolio inspired by classic children's tales, for which I received best in show at the North/Central Society of Children's Book Writer's and Illustrator's Spring Spirit conference in 2010. I also received an Ignatz nomination for my graphic novel work for Alternative Comics. I studied illustration at San Jose State University where I received my degree. I am a current member of SCBWI. |

| Judy Stead | judy@judystead.com | Bio | My freelance illustration career actually began in fourth grade, raking in playground quarters from friends who commissioned me to draw horses. Later, in college, I majored in my two favorite subjects, reading and drawing, a good combination for working as (sequentially) teacher, graphic designer, art director, illustrator, author, and painter. My last real job title was Sr. Interactive Designer for a top secret early-internet company in Cambridge, MA. I liked to say I was a construction worker on the Information Superhighway.
I live with my family in Charlotte NC where my "treetop" studio overlooks some of Mother Nature's wildest work. My imagery appears in books, magazines, institutional and corporate publications, and licensed surface design.
The Adobe Illustrator CS WOW! Books series features my art in the 2010‚ 2006, and 2004 editions. My creative work has been recognized with honors by Print Magazine's Regional Design Annual, Art Director's Club, and Bookbuilders of Boston. In favorable reviews from The Horn Book Guide, School Library Journal, Booklist, and Kirkus Reviews, my illustration has been called "exuberant, joyful, vibrant, lively, inviting, vivid, energetic, expressive".
I've illustrated a dozen children's trade books, and THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS IN NORTH CAROLINA, credits me as author/illustrator. |

Karen has illustrated over 25 books for various publishers, based on the Nickelodeon series, Blue's Clues.
Karen is a big fan of paper engineering and also enjoys creating 'artist books' of all kinds.
The Museum of Modern Art published two of her pop-up card designs for their 2007 through 2011 Holiday lines. One of these designs was recently selected as a Louie Award finalist by the National Greeting Card Association.
Karen's cloth book concept 'Play Pockets' was published by Innovative KIDS and received a Seal of Excellent from Creative Child Magazine.
She is currently developing additional soft book and board book concepts, although she has yet to seek out a publisher. Inquiries welcome!

| Marit Menzin | mmenzin@verizon.net | Bio | My kindergarten teacher, Lia, discovered my talent for drawing. I attended many art workshops and I had an oil painter for a mentor while very young. I loved to read books and I also loved to write plays and poems for school.
In college I majored in Biology and Chemistry. After a few fires and one suspected carbon monoxide leak at my graduate school laboratory, I decided that I had enough of chemical threats and hazards. I then studied computers and worked as a chemistry high school teacher, and as a computer programmer.
As I pursued my scientific career, I continued to illustrate while studying different methods of painting. I participated in workshops, entitled How to Illustrate Children’s Books, at DeCordova museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts. My mentor there was the acclaimed illustrator Ilse Plum.
In the past 7 years, I have devoted my time to writing and illustrating. I developed my own unique style as a collage artist. My goal as a writer/illustrator is to teach young children through an intriguing story and captivating illustrations.

| mollyidle | molly@idleillustration.com | Bio | Molly Idle has been drawing ever since she could wield a pencil, at the tender age of 18 months, though her professional career began slightly later…
It was upon her graduation from Arizona State University, with a BFA in Drawing, that Molly accepted an offer to work for DreamWorks Feature Animation Studios.
After five years, a number of film credits, and an incredibly good time, she left the studio and leapt with gusto into the world of children's book illustration!
Molly now lives in Arizona with her brilliant husband, two wonderfully mischievous sons, and two snuggly cats. When not making mischief with her boys or watching old black and white movies, she can be found at her desk scribbling away, with a pencil in one hand, a cup of espresso in the other, (and a cat in her lap) - creating a plethora of profoundly whimsical illustrations for children!

| René Milot | renemilot@renemilot.com | Bio | René brings his boundless energy and years of communications to solving visual problems with elegant, realistic oil painting. Of course he also works digitally when required, but oils are his main love and the medium that has garnered him an impressive list of international honors.
As both an instructor and illustrator, René addresses work with humor and pragmatism. His college illustration courses and lectures are touted as “Everything you’ve always wanted to know about illustration and your other teachers were afraid to tell you.” Clients appreciate his creativity coupled with straight forward professionalism.
For René, work and play must be closely related: “mens sana in corpore sanum” (a healthy mind in a healthy body). When he has the chance, he relishes the excitement of windsurfing, mountain biking and snowboarding. After long hours of painting, he enjoys ending the day with friends around great food and of course wine. |

| Shelagh Inglesby | shelaghinglesby@gmail.com | Bio | I am a Florida illustrator and graduate of the University of South Florida in 1995, majoring in drawing and painting. I began as an artist working in traditional mediums, from watercolor, to acrylic paints, oil paints, charcoal, conte crayon, ink and pastels but now I enjoy the clean paperless and environmentally friendly aspect of creating my illustrations in computer art programs Photoshop and Corel Painter X.
I work in layers so there is a big advantage in being able to edit the final image for a picture book. I use lighting effects, shadows and a textured brush for a luminous dreamy background. |

| srnoble | steve@stevennoble.com | Bio | Known all around the world as the most prolific and versatile scratchboard artist in the commercial art world for over 18 years, Steven Noble has created a style around the scratchboard medium that encompasses a wide range of detail and style. Over the years, he has become equally adept in the woodcut, pen and ink, traditional engraving and steel engraving styles, as well as a variety of stylized scratchboard techniques. His highly disciplined and complex line work is based on over 15 years of experience using X-Acto precision knives carved into pre-inked clay boards which generate very fine line strokes which allow a versatility in the detail from bold woodcuts to very fine traditional 19 century steel engravings.Over the course of his career, he has created many nationally recognized logos and ad campaigns for a large list of prestigious and high caliber clients such as Coors (corporate/packaging logo), Exxon-Mobil (stock certificate), JP Morgan (annual report) and Mercedes-Benz (ad campaigns). A lot of his expertise encompasses a large volume of subject matter that include food, portraits, animals, maps, architecture, and corporate conceptual images. In 2001, he won the "Meade Show Award for Excellence" for creating the best corporate conceptual illustration for an annual report for the Wet Seal's 2001 Annual Report. In addition, in 1996 his work was recognized in the Communication Art Magazine for the best advertising spot for "Beaulieu Vineyards." Steven continues to strive for excellence in his work and is always up for the next challenge. One of his last projects was a series of illustrations for the acclaimed Children's book "Zathura" which came out (Fall 2005) at the same time as the release of the movie "Zathura". You can see more samples in the Workbook, Black Book, and Directory of Illustration. For a comprehensive sampling of over 2500 images of Steven Noble's work go to: www.stevennoble.com. |
