Cheryl Welchwelchdesign@aol.comBioMy illustrative focus has been two-fold—designing for surface/textiles and for children’s picture books. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some great clients, and have illustrated product-driven textiles for Hasbro, packaging for Fisher-Price, and a Kindergarten Reader for Scott-Foresman. Whatever the project, my goal is to create art that inspires thought, evokes a smile, and serves a purpose. Whether creating a funny character or an everyday object, I use unusual colors, lines that sometimes don’t connect and seemingly impossible patterns jig-sawed together to become a strange and perfect new world filled with humor and surprise.

Jed Alexanderjedalexander@sbcglobal.netBioIf you're looking for a classic and timeless look, my work harks back to the golden age of 20th century children's book illustration, but with a contemporary feel and rich palette. After working in the editorial field for 10 years for such publications as LA Weekly, The Sacramento News and Review and The Santa Cruz Metro, I was inspired to return to my first love, children's illustration. To further this aim, I created a portfolio inspired by classic children's tales, for which I received best in show at the North/Central Society of Children's Book Writer's and Illustrator's Spring Spirit conference in 2010. I also received an Ignatz nomination for my graphic novel work for Alternative Comics. I studied illustration at San Jose State University where I received my degree. I am a current member of SCBWI.

Marit Menzinmmenzin@verizon.netBioMy kindergarten teacher, Lia, discovered my talent for drawing. I attended many art workshops and I had an oil painter for a mentor while very young. I loved to read books and I also loved to write plays and poems for school. In college I majored in Biology and Chemistry. After a few fires and one suspected carbon monoxide leak at my graduate school laboratory, I decided that I had enough of chemical threats and hazards. I then studied computers and worked as a chemistry high school teacher, and as a computer programmer. As I pursued my scientific career, I continued to illustrate while studying different methods of painting. I participated in workshops, entitled How to Illustrate Children’s Books, at DeCordova museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts. My mentor there was the acclaimed illustrator Ilse Plum. In the past 7 years, I have devoted my time to writing and illustrating. I developed my own unique style as a collage artist. My goal as a writer/illustrator is to teach young children through an intriguing story and captivating illustrations.
Marty Jonesmarty@mjarts.comBioMy body of work is fairly eclectic in its nature, and isn't specifically geared toward one type of illustration, however, all of my illustrations are realistically-styled. Over the years I have created a large number of wildlife drawings, portraits, architectural and technical illustrations. I teach art classes for children on an irregular basis; I also do school visits. My first book jacket was published in the fall of 1999; my first children's book was published in 2000. My work has been published internationally in children's books, periodicals and on the Internet.

mollyidlemolly@idleillustration.comBioMolly Idle has been drawing ever since she could wield a pencil, at the tender age of 18 months, though her professional career began slightly later… It was upon her graduation from Arizona State University, with a BFA in Drawing, that Molly accepted an offer to work for DreamWorks Feature Animation Studios. After five years, a number of film credits, and an incredibly good time, she left the studio and leapt with gusto into the world of children's book illustration! Molly now lives in Arizona with her brilliant husband, two wonderfully mischievous sons, and two snuggly cats. When not making mischief with her boys or watching old black and white movies, she can be found at her desk scribbling away, with a pencil in one hand, a cup of espresso in the other, (and a cat in her lap) - creating a plethora of profoundly whimsical illustrations for children! Shelagh Inglesbyshelaghinglesby@gmail.comBioI am a Florida illustrator and graduate of the University of South Florida in 1995, majoring in drawing and painting. I began as an artist working in traditional mediums, from watercolor, to acrylic paints, oil paints, charcoal, conte crayon, ink and pastels but now I enjoy the clean paperless and environmentally friendly aspect of creating my illustrations in computer art programs Photoshop and Corel Painter X. I work in layers so there is a big advantage in being able to edit the final image for a picture book. I use lighting effects, shadows and a textured brush for a luminous dreamy background.
