| Layne Johnson | layne@laynejohnson.com | Bio | I'm Layne Johnson and I've always loved adventure! And that's exactly what each new book is. A native Texan, I've drawn and painted just about everything! Being a children's book illustrator is also an adventure. I often ask kids if they know what an illustrator does. A kindergartener might say, "You write the pictures in books!" A third grader might say, "You draw the pictures in books!" But I say, "I bring books to life!" I don't draw or paint just what the words say. I draw what comes before the words, what's between the words, what comes after the words. It's my job to make the world of a book larger. I want the reader to "be there" in the book. And when they've taken the journey with me, to say, "Let's read it again!"
Why do I do what I do? Because it's FUN! I'm still a kid at heart, so illustrating books for kids is my passion. And empowering children to draw and write is something I cherish — what could be better?!
I earned my BFA from the University of Houston and have been a freelance illustrator for more than 25 years.

| Leanne Franson | inkspots@videotron.ca | Bio | Leanne Franson lives in Montreal, Québec, where she illustrates children's books and textbooks in her home studio, surrounded by the hair from her two cats, her Saint-Bernard and her little boy Benjamin Taotao's toys and questions. She started working on books in French as well as English after moving to Francophone Canada from the Prairies, and is now learning Mandarin, Taotao's native language. She especially loves drawing animals, and feisty children having adventures, physical or emotional. She wouldn't give up her computer, but couldn't live without her actual pencil, paper and paintbrush! |

| Tanja Bauerle | tanja@bauerle.com | Bio | Even though Tanja has been an artist her entire life she has worked professionally as a Graphic Designer for over 12 years. Her design sense and strong composition and color skills can clearly been seen in her illustrations. Since 2003, Tanja has strictly worked as a freelance illustrator and designer with her main focus being children’s illustration. Her first picture book, “There’s a Coqui in My Shoe!”, written by Marisa de Jesus Paolicelli and released by ChiChi Rodriguez Books in 2007, won the 2008 10th Annual International Latino Book Awards for Best Educational Children's Book - English. Her second book “The Adventures of Salt and Soap at Grand Canyon” published by the Grand Canyon Association will be released in the spring of 2009. In addition to design and illustration projects varying from character studies, book illustrations, greeting cards and marketing collateral, Tanja has enjoyed working on numerous book jackets ranging from children’s titles to adult fiction and non-fiction titles. Her love of story telling drives her to continually refine her craft. Traditional mediums such as acrylics, water color as well as pen and ink are Tanja’s favorite, but she also loves the freedom that digital tools such as Photoshop offer.
Tanja is an active member of the Arizona chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and helps out as Co-Illustrator Representative. After having lived in Germany and Australia, Tanja now calls Arizona her home with her family and her two Goldens Otto and Peanut and cat Ducky.
