Argoff Pattipattiargoff@sbcglobal.netBioPatti Argoff received a BFA from The School of Visual Arts in 1981, but actually was drawing long before that- she was drawing before she could talk. At least that's what her mother claims. Patti works in traditional watercolor on paper. Her paintings of animals, subjects in historical costume, kids and family situations have a lively animated quality, while paying close attention to detail and often with a wink of humor. When she's not drawing and painting, Patti enjoys working in stained glass. She also teaches a class in painting in watercolors for adults through a local high school's continuing education program.

Cheryl Welchwelchdesign@aol.comBioMy illustrative focus has been two-fold—designing for surface/textiles and for children’s picture books. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some great clients, and have illustrated product-driven textiles for Hasbro, packaging for Fisher-Price, and a Kindergarten Reader for Scott-Foresman. Whatever the project, my goal is to create art that inspires thought, evokes a smile, and serves a purpose. Whether creating a funny character or an everyday object, I use unusual colors, lines that sometimes don’t connect and seemingly impossible patterns jig-sawed together to become a strange and perfect new world filled with humor and surprise.

Chris Shaferchris@clshafer.comBioOrphaned as a child, Mr. Shafer was raised by wolves in a log cabin and forced to walk 20 miles to school every day in the snow. Really really deep snow. OK. I made that up. But this is what I plan to tell my 3 young kids when they get old enough to ask for an allowance. In reality I have over 15 years of experience in agency and corporate design, and I bring the skills I learned there to my illustration. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, I am a well organized, strongly conceptual thinker who appreciates that any successful project is based on collaboration and problem solving. My work is idea-driven and whimsical with an emphasis on humor, vivid color, and strong compositions.

Eventually she started talking and telling everybody about her crazy dreams and ideas. "Write it down," they said, "we don't want to hear it." Elizabeth had the last laugh because now she does it for a living, but she still chews on her pencil. Elizabeth is an award winning children's book illustrator and writer. Her first picture book, THE PRINCE'S DIARY, was named No.1 2006 Valentine's Day Pick by Book Sense. Her latest is the bilingual PACO AND THE GIANT CHILE PLANT, for which she's been learning to speak Spanish. My illustration style (traditional or digital) is perfect for capturing the attention of children and adults. Not only are they fun to look at, but they provide a beneficial resource to a child's education. I love what I do, and I try to put something unique in each project while learning something new too. When I am not drawing (and many times when I am) you can find me telling jokes, making sound effects, speaking Spanish, and trying to make people laugh. Contact me now for your next project! She works primarily with batik, creating illustrations with wax and dyes on cotton muslin or japanese paper. Davis chooses batik because the "loose" process allows her to achieve a disctinctive look in her artwork. Inspirations include nature, love, and the unbelievable. Some of her favorite subjects include children, animals, nonsensical and sensical things, charming places, and crazy creatures.

So rather than lose the bright, whimsical, textural style with a humerous flair that I had developed and loved, I found a very happy and comfortable home in the world of children's publishing....where I intend to stay for a long, long time! matt fostermattonmaui@earthlink.netBioDuring his 20 year career, Matt has created a varied portfolio consisting of posters for Apple Computers, Lucent Technologies and Steely Dan. Logo-identities for Frito Lay, Emery Worldwide & Levis. Working on collateral campaigns for fortune 500 corporations currently takes up most of Matt’s schedule, with a client list including AT&T, Dow Jones, GMC, Kimberly Clark Paper, Oracle & the US Postal Service. Editorial Illustration is a creative outlet for Mr. Foster, and he consistently creates images for the Wall Street Journal, CIO, Entertainment Weekly and the New York Times. Recent work for a biennial report that uses the legend of Johnny Appleseed to introduce a K12 University funded program. Wood-cut style textures were combined with silhouettes, shapes and color to convey the look of a classic children's book. AR100 2008 has awarded the campaign within the "best illustration" category.

tanjabauerletanja@bauerle.comBioEven though Tanja has been an artist her entire life she has worked professionally as a Graphic Designer for over 12 years. Her design sense and strong composition and color skills can clearly been seen in her illustrations. Since 2003, Tanja has strictly worked as a freelance illustrator and designer with her main focus being children’s illustration. Her first picture book, “There’s a Coqui in My Shoe!”, written by Marisa de Jesus Paolicelli and released by ChiChi Rodriguez Books in 2007, won the 2008 10th Annual International Latino Book Awards for Best Educational Children's Book - English. Her second book “The Adventures of Salt and Soap at Grand Canyon” published by the Grand Canyon Association will be released in the spring of 2009. In addition to design and illustration projects varying from character studies, book illustrations, greeting cards and marketing collateral, Tanja has enjoyed working on numerous book jackets ranging from children’s titles to adult fiction and non-fiction titles. Her love of story telling drives her to continually refine her craft. Traditional mediums such as acrylics, water color as well as pen and ink are Tanja’s favorite, but she also loves the freedom that digital tools such as Photoshop offer. Tanja is an active member of the Arizona chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and helps out as Co-Illustrator Representative. After having lived in Germany and Australia, Tanja now calls Arizona her home with her family and her two Goldens Otto and Peanut and cat Ducky.
