Cheryl Welchwelchdesign@aol.comBioMy illustrative focus has been two-fold—designing for surface/textiles and for children’s picture books. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some great clients, and have illustrated product-driven textiles for Hasbro, packaging for Fisher-Price, and a Kindergarten Reader for Scott-Foresman. Whatever the project, my goal is to create art that inspires thought, evokes a smile, and serves a purpose. Whether creating a funny character or an everyday object, I use unusual colors, lines that sometimes don’t connect and seemingly impossible patterns jig-sawed together to become a strange and perfect new world filled with humor and surprise.
Chris Beatriceartist@chrisbeatrice.comBioChris' has created art for books games, packaging, magazines and posters. His work has been featured several times in Spectrum, Exposé, Exotique, Painter and Fantasy Art Now 2, receiving two awards for Excellence in Fantasy and another for Excellence in Humor. His work has also appeared on display in the Lyceum Theater Gallery in San Diego, California, The Danforth Museum of Art in Framingham, Massachusetts, and The Gallery at Mount Ida College in Newton, MA. Chris received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, Massachusetts.

Ellen Beierellenbeier@yahoo.comBioI started drawing as a small child by the side of my artist grandmother. We carried our pencils and sketch pads together to Coney Island Beach where we drew the sleeping sunbathers. After studying architecture at Cornell University and art in London, I returned to the States to finish up my BFA at California College of Arts and Crafts in the Bay Area. My first jobs were in design firms and then textbook illustration. In 1987 I moved to Hamburg, Germany where I was able to continue my career in picture books. In 1997 I returned to the U.S. and now live/work in the lovely Willamette Valley in Oregon.
erika lebarreerika@erikalebarre.comBioErika LeBarre has always been exposed to art one way or another as she grew up. Her father worked as a car designer for the big three until he retired, and her mother was and still is a ceramicist. Erika's parents always encouraged her creative side. Drawing was her favorite thing to do, especially dinosaurs and monsters as subject matter. Erika graduated from the College for Creative Studies in 1990 with a BFA in illustration. She worked at an art studio with other illustrators and designers for over four years. Since then she has worked as a freelance illustrator out of her home. “Erika's work is beautiful and highly original. She always comes through with knock-out work, on time and without a hassle. She makes art directors look good! She is very thorough in her approach to an assignment and makes sure there are no unanswered questions and no unpleasant surprises. Jim Caputojim@groggydog.comBioJim graduated from art school in 1986 and began his career as a graphic designer for an ad agency in Philadelphia. After doing work by hand for a few years, he finally acquired a Mac. This allowed him to move on as an art director working for a few design studios along the way. Illustration has always been his passion and in 1998 he opened Groggy Dog Studios. After sending out a promo piece, he landed an editorial illustration for the Wall Street Journal Classroom Edition. Groggy Dog Studios was up and running. “As a kid,” Jim said, “ I was always reprimanded for daydreaming and now I'm getting paid for it!” In 2000, he left Philadelphia and moved to Orlando, Florida. While looking for a full-time job, he took the time to develop his technique and experiment with a mixed media of watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, and brushed ink. This allowed for a fresh look and began doing work for magazines such as chickaDEE and Muse. After nine years of working as an art director by day and illustrator by night, he decided to make illustration a full-time gig in 2007. Jim quips, “My neighbors are convinced I’m hiding under the Federal Witness Protection Program.” His client list includes The Kennedy Center, Scholastic, Ideals Publications, Norwood House Press, and Harcourt. In his spare time, he enjoys physical fitness, going to movies, and reading. All of which provide an endless amount of inspiration.

Josee Bisailloninfo@joseebisaillon.comBio Josée Bisaillon grew up in St-Hyacinthe, Québec, Canada. Rather than follow in her father's footsteps as a veterinary surgeon, she chose to cut animals from paper: they were colorful, low maintenance and always in fine health. Today her illustrations, a mixture of collage, drawings and digital montage, take us into a world so richly detailed and multidimensional that you'd hardly think it all came out of only one person's imagination. When not making pictures, Josée enjoys knitting socks for her young daughter Charlotte and is touring the world as a virtual Rock Band guitarist. Bisaillon's has won many Applied Arts Illustration Award and LUX Illustration Awards in Québec, and was a finalist for the 2008 Governor General's Literary Awards in Canada.

Her first job was to conceptualize, design and illustrate kids' educational materials for Upstart, now owned by the Highsmith Company. This led her to a job with Nickelodeon where she was a senior designer for seven years, learning the many facets of working within the realm of licensed brands, products and properties. Karen has illustrated over 25 books for various publishers, based on the Nickelodeon series, Blue's Clues. Karen is a big fan of paper engineering and also enjoys creating 'artist books' of all kinds. The Museum of Modern Art published two of her pop-up card designs for their 2007 through 2011 Holiday lines. One of these designs was recently selected as a Louie Award finalist by the National Greeting Card Association. Karen's cloth book concept 'Play Pockets' was published by Innovative KIDS and received a Seal of Excellent from Creative Child Magazine. René Milotrenemilot@renemilot.comBio René brings his boundless energy and years of communications to solving visual problems with elegant, realistic oil painting. Of course he also works digitally when required, but oils are his main love and the medium that has garnered him an impressive list of international honors. As both an instructor and illustrator, René addresses work with humor and pragmatism. His college illustration courses and lectures are touted as “Everything you’ve always wanted to know about illustration and your other teachers were afraid to tell you.” Clients appreciate his creativity coupled with straight forward professionalism. For René, work and play must be closely related: “mens sana in corpore sanum” (a healthy mind in a healthy body). When he has the chance, he relishes the excitement of windsurfing, mountain biking and snowboarding. After long hours of painting, he enjoys ending the day with friends around great food and of course wine.

Sally Vitskysvitsky@comcast.netBio Sally Vitsky has always been drawn to the tactile quality of paper and the endless possibilities of constructing imagery in 3-D. As of late, Sally has focused on using recycled and “green” materials in her work. One of her favorite clients is the American Forest & Paper Association who is always happy to have another mode to stress sustainability and recycling efforts. Sally’s work has been included in the Society of Illustrators 3-D Salon and the annual 3 X 3 magazine competition. During the rare moments when not cutting and gluing, Sally is happily at home in Richmond, Va. with her husband and dog, exploring the growing local arts venues and The Virginia Museum, and enjoying the empty nest that resulted from 2 little boys turning, miraculously, into young adults!

Shelagh Inglesbyshelaghinglesby@gmail.comBioI am a Florida illustrator and graduate of the University of South Florida in 1995, majoring in drawing and painting. I began as an artist working in traditional mediums, from watercolor, to acrylic paints, oil paints, charcoal, conte crayon, ink and pastels but now I enjoy the clean paperless and environmentally friendly aspect of creating my illustrations in computer art programs Photoshop and Corel Painter X. I work in layers so there is a big advantage in being able to edit the final image for a picture book. I use lighting effects, shadows and a textured brush for a luminous dreamy background.
