About the Artist

  • Melanie Siegel

I began my art career with a crayon and a pair of cuticle scissors. At the age of three I made what I felt were necessary and carefully thought out improvements in each medium to my sister's mahogany bedroom furniture. These crude but lively enhancements live on to this day in the guest room of her home. Fortunately, I now create more constructive works of art. I've been working as a professional illustrator since 2001: "The Best Present Ever" by Neil Griffiths, published by Red Robin books in the UK, November, 2012, "Incredible You" by Wayne Dyer (a NY Times Children's Bestseller) as well as illustrations for Highlights Magazine, Loyola Press, Houghton, Grossett/Dunlap, Scholastic, Little Lutheran, Brown Publishing, Hendrix College Alumni Magazine, Compass Publishing, among many others. All of my artwork is created digitally in Corel Painter with color adjustments and file conversions in Photoshop. I am a member of the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (www.scbwi.org) and a board member of the Picture Book Artists Association (www.picturebookartists.org). What I like to do...spot artwork, covers, black and white images, picture books, basically i can draw anything. I also have a background in graphic design and even interior design ( http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/10546805/list/Kitchen-of-the-Week--Color-Bursts-Enliven-an-Arkansas-Kitchen).
